Prairie “BOMB!” is an Imperial Stout aged on coffee (Nordaggios), cacao nibs, vanilla beans and chili peppers. It is a medium-body stout, boasting flavors and nose of intense gourmet dark chocolate, roasted coffee and spicy chili peppers.
Prairie Artisan Ales is a company started by two brothers, Chase and Colin Healey, in 2012. They specialize in Saison, Farmhouse, and Sour beer but with the addition of BOMB and others, they have shown their ability to craft exceptional stouts as well. “…We wanted to do something that was awesome. We have the talent, and most importantly the years of experience needed to get it done. So we did it. We have funded the company on our own, and only want to work with people that care about beer, super good beer. Our goal is to show people what is possible when you start with “step one”.
Scoring: Ratebeer.com gives Prairie Bomb a perfect 100 score. BeerAdvocate.com rates it 99/100 points. Here at Lake Liquor we also give it 100 points. Truth be told, it’s just too difficult to find enough wrong with the beer to deduct any points from it. It is a FANTASTIC effort.
Review: In order to prevent bias, I invited three fellow beer enthusiasts to try BOMB to get their opinion of the beer and to describe flavors they were tasting. We first tasted BOMB at 45 degrees. At that temperature these were the flavor/descriptors as detected by myself and my much enthused panel: Dark chocolate, cappuccino, roasted marshmallow, chocolate malt balls, pepper, hops, toffee, and bittersweet. Our second pour was done at a warmer temperature of 58 degrees. We found that by allowing BOMB to warm, more vanilla flavor showed through, as well as a creamier mouth-feel which was dominated by chocolate covered toffee flavor. Delicious and decadent!
If you are a fan of Stout Beer or you have been looking to try more stouts and expanding your palate, you simply MUST try this beer! Prairie BOMB is an explosion of flavors in your mouth and will provide a wonderful experience. COME GET YOU SOME!!!!
